The objective of the African Union’s 2021-2031 Decade is to strengthen the ties between the peoples of Africa and the Diaspora by fostering a better understanding and appreciation of the history, culture, and contribution of Africans and the Diaspora to global society.

By focusing on the promotion of African roots and the Diaspora, the Decade aims to strengthen unity and solidarity among African and Diaspora peoples, to foster recognition and appreciation of the contribution of the Diaspora to Africa’s history and development, and to encourage the involvement of the Diaspora in Africa’s economic, social and political development.

During the Decade, the African Union will work to put in place programs and projects that foster a better understanding and appreciation of African culture and the Diaspora, promote investment and economic cooperation between Africa and the Diaspora, and establish a platform for regular dialogue and collaboration between Africa and the Diaspora.
